Red Rock Pass

Sometimes you do strange things to get what you want
I had to buy a red rock pass
The man at the Circle K looked at me with dull gray eyes
Marking me another tourist pretentious and crass
What does he know
I had to have the forestry service creation
I needed the silly ticket to stop and muse
At wonders awaiting my wandering imagination
I got in my red eclipse and drove off
To a red pitcher pouring life giving water
Rippling into an irregular terra cotta bowl
What a magnificent Potter
Then a Joshua Tree wrapped it's branches around a red vista
Reaching round to frame the sharp angled cathedral crest
Wreathing the rusty curiosity with a sense
Of being cradled in my Mother's breast
Yes I needed that red rock pass
And I'm here to tell you
I'm getting my money's worth of resplendent red
Gregarious gray and green bombastic brown and blue
