What's so great about poetry?

Truth and beauty are sacred and move the souls of people in all ages and cultures

"I have a passion for beautiful poetry"

"My purpose is to bring beautiful poems
and stories as an offering to the world."

Poetry provides a unique way of looking at the world. When a poet looks at something they "see" words and what they symbolize.

Words, with their interactions and nuances. That is the world of the poet. Defining, refining, balancing, allegorizing, speaking symbolically and tapping into that innate force and effectiveness of words. The poet uses verse, meter, rhetoric and rhyme to frame their works of word artistry. Spoken or written, the poet's palette is their language. And the end result is a piece of artwork that is unique and valuable.

The Bible proclaims that God used the spoken word to create the cosmos.  Poetry and song abound in the Bible and are clearly positioned as the most elevated form of communication.  In the Book of Ephesians it says that Christians are "His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10).  The word "workmanship" in that passage is the Greek word  (poihma ) we use for poem.  So, you could say we are living poems created by God.  A powerful statement about the power of poetry in our lives.

"I have a vision of the people of God as a worldwide mirror reflecting the beauty of God. But that mirror has been shattered and scattered in fragments all over the earth. This makes it hard to see the image and even harder to grasp. I want to write in a way that helps brings those pieces together into a gorgeous stained glass image of the beauty of God."  Russell Griffith
